A royal Hare, Jester Crow and lantern-bearing Moth make up this whimsical winter court scene in an otherworldly snowy landscape. This painting will be making its way to Buckinghamshire next week to take part in the ‘Winter Fairytales’ exhibition at the Obsidian Art Gallery which runs from 4th November to 31st December.
This whimsical painting is simply my imagination enjoying creating characters of some favourite creatures.
The intelligence and playfulness of Ravens is well-documented, and the Corvid family of birds are a particular favourite of mine. Their clever antics are represented in the Jester’s hat.
The Hare-Queen represents the wild otherness of the hare, perhaps the most mysterious of those creatures that are familiar to us. This adds to their allure and is likely why so many myths still surround them, even in our ‘know-it-all’ age. She is poised, regal, and self-contained…
The little lantern-bearing Moth represents a love of light, and carrying illumination in to dark places.
