I have always been fascinated by the moon. When I was a little girl and couldn't sleep I would perch on my bedroom window sill and imagine I was the only person in the world who was awake, with only the moon to keep me company. It was strangely comforting; perhaps because of the ethereal and other-worldly light that made the Glasgow of my childhood look a bit more enchanting. Rich fodder for a child with an expansive imagination.
Even now, as an adult, I find moonlight comforting. I think it's because I associate it with silence - the calm hush after the rest of the world has stopped talking. It's this quiet I imagine that this peacefully sleeping hare experiences, restful and untouched by the threat of the Hunter. Watched over by the orange-glow of this autumnal moon, she trusts in the care of her Creator within a world not safe but still beautiful.
